Terms of Service
Last Updated: June 10, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By registering an account and using the UmpireForHire platform, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you must immediately cease using the website.
2. Platform Role & Officiating Marketplace
UmpireForHire is a matchmaking and scheduling marketplace for cricket officiating. We connect Cricket Captains (who request officiating services) with Independent Umpires (who apply to fulfill these requests). We are not an employer, agency, or contractor of the umpires. All matches, officiating arrangements, fees, and payments are agreements negotiated directly between the Captain and the Umpire.
3. Match Lifecycle Rules
Users must respect the match lifecycle and status changes configured on the platform:
- Publication: Matches published are opened for applications (`APPLICATIONS_OPEN`). Details can be edited during this stage.
- Assignment: Accepting an umpire transitions the match to `CONFIRMED`. Other pending applications will be automatically set to `REJECTED`.
- Postponements: Marking a match as postponed resets its status to `APPLICATIONS_OPEN`, clears the assigned umpire, and sets all applications to `PENDING` to allow rescheduling and detail modifications.
- Finalization & Closing: Matches marked as completed transition to `COMPLETED`. Captains must then finalize/close the match (`CLOSED`) and submit their feedback.
4. Umpire Attendance & Ratings Policy
Reliability is core to UmpireForHire. The following rules apply to officiating attendance and rating submission:
- No Shows: If an accepted umpire fails to attend a match, the Captain must flag the umpire as a **No Show** during match finalization. The umpire's status will resolve to `NO_SHOW`, and their rating will default to a 1-star penalty.
- Honest Reviews: Captains and Umpires agree to provide fair, accurate, and constructive feedback. Defamatory, offensive, or retaliatory reviews are strictly prohibited and subject to removal by platform administrators.
- Suspension: Repeated cancellations, negative ratings, or confirmed "No Shows" may result in temporary or permanent suspension of an umpire's profile from the directory.
5. Limitation of Liability
UmpireForHire is not liable for match outcomes, disputes, physical injury, property damage, or unpaid officiating fees. Captains and Umpires are solely responsible for coordinating safe environments, verifying payment mechanisms, and maintaining sportsmanship on the field.
